Whispers that the social media giant was working on a new product aimed at businesses were first heard six months ago. With the pilot program now available, find out why companies around the world are so excited – and why you should be too.

Facebook’s new offering, called “Facebook at Work”, lets you create an internal version of Facebook for your business. Filled with company updates and your employees only, it was designed to encourage teams to connect, chat and share knowledge to improve collaboration and productivity.

The move comes after the billion-user social network’s realisation that many businesses were either already using Facebook Groups for this purpose or using software like Microsoft’s Yammer, Slack, Convo and Socialcast.

In hopes of encouraging these Groups users (and other Facebook Fans) to migrate over to Facebook at Work, the portal was created with an almost-identical interface. The colour scheme, however, is different between the two platforms, making it easier for you to know who is working and who is messing around!

 

To get started on Facebook at Work, you’ll need to create log-ins for your employees to use with their work accounts. Packed with familiar features such as the News Feed, Search, Groups, Events, Messenger, and photo and video sharing functions, staff should be able to find their way around the new tool quite easily.

While the product has been in development for the last 10 years, and Facebook employees currently use it to chat, pass on news, plan meetings and share documents, Facebook at Work is still in beta testing and currently only available to a limited number of users. It comes in webiOS and Android versions.
